Residential Treatment in Dallas

At Visions Adolescent Treatment Centers, our goal is to provide a safe environment for both males and females suffering from mental health issues and addiction. We create a sanctuary for our residents by providing a home-like facility that focuses on comfort and conveys respect for each person living there. Residents have access to shared bedrooms, a full-sized living room and kitchen, a game area and a pool, which help create an atmosphere reminiscent of home where each person residing in the facility has the resources they need to complete their treatment. In addition to their own specialized residence, patients at Visions participate in daily activities such as on-site schooling, physical conditioning, equine therapy and more. Each of these approaches help residents prioritize their treatment and recognize the importance of their personal wellbeing. Residential treatment is specifically designed for adolescents aged 13 to 18 years old, with the length of stay depending on the severity of the condition at hand.

What is Residential Treatment?

Our residential treatment facility is presided over by a highly-skilled team of licensed therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, medical doctors and nurses. The purpose of the facility is to provide a supportive yet intensive program that helps adolescents struggling with addiction, mental health disorders or both. Visions teaches residents the importance of accountability for their actions while also creating an environment of hope and security. Upon entering treatment, each resident is assigned a therapist who they work with directly during the course of their stay. Residents also spend time with other members of the Visions staff as part of their participation in various activities throughout the day.

The facility is supervised 24/7 without straying from the family-oriented environment Visions aims to create, and the staff provide a sense of security for all residents so that they feel free to openly partake in their treatment. Located in the secluded hills of Malibu, California, our residential facilities are removed from enabling stimulus and negative influences. We also provide a gated community in order to discourage runaways and ensure the utmost privacy for our residents. Additionally, all of our staff are PART certified, meaning that they have the credentials necessary to intervene in harmful situations. Psychiatrists are available to distribute necessary medications, and the residents requiring one-on- one assistance will constantly be in a staff member’s sight if necessary.

The Goal of Residential Treatment

Whether residents are coping with drug addiction, mental health issues or co-occuring disorders, Visions uses its multi-modal approach to encourage a healthy lifestyle. With the use of psychiatric care and various psychological therapies, adolescents are able to understand the causes of their addiction, acknowledge their behavior and use their realizations to create a meaningful personal life. Methods of treatment apply to family members as well, who are required to participate in family therapy in order to recognize potentially destructive behaviors and create an environment of understanding and support within their own homes.

Through treatment, as well as the various fun and engaging activities offered, residents are better able to problem-solve, eat and exercise appropriately, build a network of positive relationships and use their past experiences to renew their lives.

How to Join Residential Treatment at Visions

In order to take part in residential treatment, candidates must undergo several comprehensive assessments for substance abuse, psychosocial issues, medical problems and psychiatric care. Each of these assessments are performed by way of physical examination, chemical dependency screening interview, psychiatric evaluation and other psychosocial determinants that provide information about the success rate of the specific resident. Based on the information collected, a treatment plan is created that addresses the issues the resident is struggling with as well as their goals for recovery. Residents are allowed to review their treatment plan with their assigned counselor to ensure their full understanding, and a plan is put into place that will help achieve the outlined goals.

Residential treatment could include any or all of the following services:

  • Process group therapy
  • Goal groups
  • Individual therapy
  • Substance abuse groups
  • Family therapy
  • Art therapy
  • Anger management
  • Stress management
  • Psycho-education

Whether or not the resident participates in these sessions depends on the credentials formulated during the assessment period. Visions aims to create treatment plans that adhere to the individuality of each resident, which we believe increases the likelihood of treatment success. By creating a recovery program that aligns with an adolescent’s specific viewpoints and values, there is a greater chance of them actively accepting the treatment process.

Life After Residential Treatment

As residential treatment comes to an end, the resident’s assigned counselor performs a final evaluation and compares it to the assessments administered at the beginning of treatment. From the information gathered, the counselor will be able to devise a discharge plan that addresses continuing needs outside of residential treatment. Continuing needs could include therapeutic schooling, individual or family therapy, 12-step programs, academic assistance, social stimulation, access to community resources and more.

The goal of the discharge plan is to create a smooth transition into the real world. Participating in therapeutic services after treatment is a way to stay active in recovery and decrease chances of relapse. Following completion of residential treatment, residents have the option of joining the Visions Alumni Program, The Fourth Dimension. Members of the alumni group take the skills that they have learned and continue their growth by becoming involved in self-help groups and maintaining positive relationships with the Visions staff. Members can attend up to two sessions per week and enjoy a variety of fun activities like ski and snowboarding trips, ventures to Magic Mountain, alumni vs. staff softball games and more.
